Trip to Kyoto and Kobe

March 30, 2008

From 23th to 30th of March, our friends from Niigata visited Honjo. And then we, altogether, had spent our vacation in Kyoto and Kobe. Before we went there, we dropped by Tokyo to say hello to Cambodian friends who are studying at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). At night we took night bus to Kyoto. Thanks to our friends there who provided us an accommodation and guided us some famous places, temples, shrines and food in Kyoto. In Kyoto, we also had a chance to spend our dinner with Japanese family who had worked in Cambodia for couple years ago. Coincidentally, we also celebrated our 1 year engagement anniversary there. After 2 days in Kyoto, we extended our holiday to Kobe. Our friends there also actively escorted us to experience in Kobe. Finally, we took a night bus from Kobe to Tokyo.

3.14 is a White Day

March 14, 2008

White Day

In Japan, Valentine’s Day is considered as the day that female presents a chocolate gifts as well as others to male. On the other hand, White Day is another day that Japanese celebrate to response to Valentine’s Day. On the While Day, men should pay back the women who gave them chocolate gifts.

According to Wikipedia, White Day was first celebrated in 1978 in Japan. It was started by the National Confectionery Industry Association.

To me, this is the first time to see such day. However, I forget to prepare something for my fiancee who want to get a set of make-up from me. I shall give her later on.

Our holiday in Yokohama

February 24, 2008

SakuragichoFrom 20 to 22 Feb 2008, we’ve been to Yokohama for holiday after first semester. It’s so attractive to see the port, sea, the tallest building in Japan and china town. On the first day we arrived Yokohama, one Khmer and two Myanmar friends had brought us to visit some shopping malls around Yokohama station and introduced some big sale shops for ending of winter. After that, we took subway to National Yokohama University. We’ve spent our dinner at Pasta & Pizza restaurant, Italian restaurant, which looked similar to Saizeriya. Then we walked to the hill of Yokohama dormitory where we slept there. Yokohama dormitory is quite old and each room does not provide a bath tube. We’ve to go to common place for having bath and cost 100yen for 10mn if we want to access hot water. Moreover, shared kitchen in common room also needs 10yen for cooking with limit amount of gas usage.

Day2, in the morning we walked around National Yokohama University campus and spent lunch in cafeteria. From afternoon, we started visiting Sakuragicho, Motomachi and China town. Tabehodai, eat free for 2500yen with 90mn was our dinner at a restaurant in China town. 5 persons in total, have eaten 61 dishes including desserts. And then we went back to dormitory.

Day3, we went back to Tokyo and visited Ueno straight away. And later on we come back our home sweet home, Honjo dormitory by school bus. These were what we’ve done while trip to Yokohama. Thanks for our friends in Yokohama who shared time for us.
